Event Overview

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I extend a warm welcome to all participants to the 2025 International Meeting of Organic Geochemistry in Porto, Portugal, 7 – 12 September 2025. As Chair of the European Association of Organic Geochemistry, it is an honour to announce our 32nd biennial gathering, which marks a significant milestone in our organization’s history.

The European Association of Organic Geochemistry has been at the forefront of advancing research and fostering collaboration for more than 60 years. From the beginning, EAOG has led IMOG to continually push the boundaries of scientific exploration, contributing invaluable insights to our understanding of Earth’s history and processes. As we explore and expand our mandate, we have welcomed evolving science from marine and terrestrial systems focused on biogeochemistry, paleoenvironments and climate change, as well as analytical innovations.

Our roots also include petroleum and coal geochemistry to obtain knowledge about the ‘origin and constitution’ of naturally occurring petroleum. The geochemical knowledge gained – and the tools, samples, and analysis developed and disseminated – have been foundational to both earth science and to an industry now reckoning with a future which adheres to Paris agreement pledges to limit global warming to 1.5 °C, and ensures a just and equitable energy transition for all.

From the imperative of the energy transition to the urgent need for a deeper understanding of climate change, our discipline stands as a cornerstone of scientific inquiry. Through our efforts together, we will decipher the intricacies of Earth’s past and illuminate pathways toward a sustainable future. Our diverse and dedicated community is unique and essential to study and solve the challenges in this unprecedented period in human history.

On behalf of the European Association of Organic Geochemistry, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and organisers for their dedication and support.

Best regards,

Courtney Turich

Chair, European Association of Organic Geochemistry (EAOG)

Event Update

The new submission type for IMOG: “late breaking” poster submissions was first introduced in 2019. It is now actively used and gives our community the chance to submit for poster presentations for work completed after the main abstract submission deadline. This flexibility provides us with excellent poster presentations highlighting the latest work. I am pleased to announce that we will continue to run this programme for 2023.

The 32nd International Meeting on Organic Geochemistry (IMOG 2025) will be held in Porto, Portugal, from 7-12 September, 2025. For the fifth time the conference will be organized by the European Association of Organic Geochemists in cooperation with the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE). The official biennial conference of the European Association of Organic Geochemists (EAOG) is the largest meeting on Organic Geochemistry.

The guiding principle of the IMOG meetings is to encourage presentation, communication and discussion of research results carried out in academia and industry in the fields of Organic Geochemistry with topics ranging from biogeochemistry to petroleum geochemistry.

We are expecting more than 500 participants from all over the world with dozens of oral presentations and up to 500 poster presentations. In addition, an exhibition is also being organized to facilitate knowledge transfer and business among the geochemical community.
